ANAWIM OUTREACH PROGRAM

by April Estaris

Christmas is the most wonderful season to share love.

What a better way to spend the holidays? Meeting up with old friends and getting that link rekindled. A romantic dinner for two with that special someone or perhaps a gathering with the family - of course, a lot would say.

Last December, a group of marketing associates from LevelOne came up with the idea of giving back and reaching out to our elderlies. It was supposed to be a small gathering for Team Sharks, led by Jade Sierra who is known for organizing fun  activities. The team decided that instead of going out or throwing a Christmas party, why not a charity event? They picked each other’s brains out and came up with a fund raising bazaar.

The team worked up a sweat selling cookies and other goods to buy gifts for the seniors of Anawim. They also sent an invite for anyone who can join the outreach program held on December 21st. The fund raising project is an overwhelming success, collecting not only the target amount but exceeding it by far. LevelOne team members volunteered in gift packing while others used their free time to rehearse OPM Christmas Carols intended to serenade Anawim seniors.

Anawim, as seen in their website, provides homes for older adults who've come across unfortunate circumstances in Rizal. The community shelters these individuals until families come for them - otherwise, they become permanent residents. Caregivers in Anawim do their best to nourish health and provide counsel. Physicians, nurses, and even locals give up their free time to care for the elderlies. Many would think that hope is lost but surprisingly, various establishments and organizations reach out. These groups, big or small, make an effort to provide financial aid and volunteers to enrich lives in Anawim.

The outreach program was a success and after calling it a day, the team realized what it's like to care for these seniors. It takes compassion and undertanding to help them stray from emotional setbacks, feel accepted, and rediscover their purpose in life.

The heartwarming experience lasted only for a couple of hours but during that time, the team made a difference in the hearts of these, once, youthful individuals.

Team Sharks hopes this kind of event happens  not only as a tradition during the holiday season but also, on a regular basis RealPagers would take to heart.
